PURPOSE

Effective communication and early identification of patient problems are vital principles in critical care nursing. These principles ensure seamless teamwork and patient care. The ability to recognize and address patient issues early on is crucial for successful handover from rapid response teams to accident and emergency nurses. This requires a combination of knowledge about pathological changes, experience, and comprehensive patient assessment.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Our website discusses the importance of thorough nursing care while practicing in the AED. This can only be achieved with the support of immediate comprehensive nurse-led health assessment, without having to wait for medical review. For example, if I had opened the dressings in this case, I would have been able to determine that it was a colostomy case. I could have kindly shared this observation with the ambulance staff, saving the patient from potential public embarrassment. It is crucial for AED nurses to conduct a nurse-led comprehensive health assessment instead of a general assessment, as they receive patients directly from the ambulance staff without waiting for the medical review. By providing timely nurse-led interventions, ensuring patient safety, monitoring vitals, performing ECG monitoring, continuing rehydration therapy, and administering prophylactic antibiotics and analgesics, we were able to stabilize the patient’s condition. It is therefore important for AED nurses to respond quickly and coordinated manner based on evidence-based interventions to prevent potential complications.

Furthermore, it is important for the team lead nurse to maintain professional discipline when it comes to choosing appropriate language and avoiding vulgar words and derogatory statements. Such language can have a demoralizing impact on patients and their families. It is our duty to adhere to the nursing code of ethics, which includes principles of dignity, integrity, mutual respect, and the embracement of a mentorship culture in the clinical area. However, it is also important to ensure that we have accurate and factual knowledge about a patient’s case when dealing with serious matters, as any misinformation or lack of information can significantly impact the quality of care, patient safety, and professional competence.
